British costume designerJacqueline Durran took home an Achievement in Costume Design Oscar on Sunday night for her work onAnna Karenina. This is Durran's first win, though she's been nominated twice before -- once in 2006 for Pride & Prejudice and again in 2008 for Atonement.Coincidentally, all three of Durran's nominated films have been directed by Joe Wright and starred Keira Knightly.
Durran's period costumes for Karenina took home top honors at the Costume Designer Guild Awards last week as well as the BAFTA in the same category earlier this month.
Although the film was set in the 1870s, Durran consulted the elaborate, 1950s-era couture gowns of Christian Dior and Christobal Balenciaga for inspiration, and was largely favored by the fashion industry to take home Oscar night's top costume prize.

VESTIDOS DE CINE 21st Century
After watching the new film from the director Joe Wright, Anna Karenina, I found out the amazing British designer Jacqueline Durran.
Looking into her creations I realize, she is the designer for some of the films that, in my opinion, are better dressed!
2005 Pride & Prejudice
Jacqueline was inspired by the fashion of the eighteenth century, from corsets and empire silhouette, which became popular after 1790. All of the costumes were handmade, as clothing was at the time.
She won in 2005 the Satellite Awards: Outstanding Costume Design.

| The film costume represents the fashion of this time and the personal situation of Marie Antoinette. Eighteenth-century women lived locked in corset and crinolines. During this time, the world looked to France as aesthetic inspiration. The pastel colors were in vogue and Marie Antoinette became white color fashionable. |

Catherine Leterrier, costume designer of the film, studied art history before studying and working in fashion. Now she works for film, theater and opera.

| To create the Oscar-nominated costumes for “The Artist,” designer Mark Bridges had to think in both color and black and white. “Things that you wouldn't notice in color suddenly showed up when it became black and white,” he said. “A simple beaded flapper dress suddenly became maternity wear.” |

Patricia Field, famous stylist, costume designer and director of the film, is one of the great visionaries of modern fashion. Dedicated more than 40 years to the world of fashion. She has worked for a number of brands and has received several awards, among them three Emmys and an Oscar nomination.
